Key Lines of Enquiry
Also known as: KLOEs, key lines of enquiry
The standard questions the CQC previously used under each key question to guide inspections, now largely replaced by the quality statements of the Single Assessment Framework.
Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) were the set questions the Care Quality Commission used under each of its five key questions to structure inspections and reach a judgement.
From 2023 the CQC began moving to its Single Assessment Framework, whose quality statements replace the KLOE structure. The five key questions themselves remain, so evidence gathered in the KLOE era still maps closely onto the newer framework.
Why it matters for care homes
Many care home policies, audits, and templates were written around KLOEs. Understanding how they relate to the new quality statements avoids duplicated effort and keeps existing evidence useful.
